Midlife Success

Seeking Success in Midlife
By: Anne Uemura, Ph.D.

By the time a woman reaches her midlife she has shed many of the idealistic and romantic notions that her previous goals and dreams were founded on. The middle years can bring unwelcome revelations about a woman’s marriage or relationships, health, career path, spirituality and overall personal development. So it’s not too surprising that seeking success in midlife is both a touchy subject and a hot topic.

While you may not be convinced that all the symptoms of middle age are to be enjoyed, there is reason for a positive outlook. If you look you’ll find significant scientific and anecdotal evidence supporting the fact that the midlife years can be used for unusual personal growth and development. “In a 1997 survey by the North American Menopause Society, more than half of American women aged forty-five to sixty viewed menopause as the beginning of a new and fulfilling stage of life.” Women who tend to feel successful during the midlife years are those who are able to use their struggles as an impetus for change.

* Transforming Struggles into Success in Midlife

From menopause to illness and death, midlife tends to pile on the responsibilities and burdens. This happens at a time when many women expect to be enjoying greater freedom and rewards for their years of hard work. For instance, your own experience may seem to suggest that life is just a struggle and you need to accept it.

Yes, life is hard. But successful midlife women find a way to use their struggles to better their lives. The first step is to acknowledge and accept fully your discontent. Then start turning to what would make you smile. It could mean a new and more fulfilling career, a better relationship, better physical condition or an improved financial state.

* Defining Success for Women in Midlife

Success-coaches find that most women know exactly what they don’t want in their lives: e.g., poverty, loneliness, illness. However the key to building a successful midlife experience is to invest fully in gaining with full clarity and detail the vision you want to create.

Coaching women through midlife has become one of the fastest growing careers because permanent change is so hard to implement. Just think of how many struggle and fail trying to lose weight, manage money or start exercising. When a woman seeking success in midlife employs a life coach to guide her they both will need to take some very specific steps regardless of the individual journey.

Since all permanent change is rooted in your underlying beliefs you must be willing to examine your preconceived notions about your self and the world. For instance, if your mother raised you to believe that a healthy woman “has a little meat on her bones” your attempts to lose weight are combated by your subconscious believing that that is an unwise move. We are full of beliefs that don’t serve us. Most of us cannot see ourselves without bias, which is why a life coach can add clarity and perspective to this process.

Once you have identified your coach she needs to have the resources to help you rewire key thoughts so you won’t recreate the past. Also from your dreams and list of “wants” for your life, you need to dig deep to find out what the best idea of your life purpose is. What goals would be in line with this life purpose? Then you and your coach will need to outline an action based on achieving those goals. Finally, you will embark on the journey with your coach guiding, prompting and helping you along the way.

* Build a Community for Success in Midlife

The concept of a life coach really goes back centuries. They were referred to as wise elders and given much respect. We have lost that tribal connection, and women need to build community and seek out mentors in other ways. One of the benefits of choosing a life coach is that you can seek out someone who has already been down the path that you are traveling and can point out both barriers and shortcuts to midlife success.

In addition, you can look for or create a support group of midlife women within your community, church or other organization. Having other women who intend to create the best opportunity for themselves in their present challenges are good to have on your side. Mastermind groups as described by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich are a specific form of a support group.

The challenges of the midlife years can be seen as a wake-up call. Stop to take a long look at your life and the path you are traveling. Remember Lao-tsu said: "If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading."

Your struggles can be transformed into the power to pave a new path that leads toward a more fulfilling future. Midlife offers a huge opportunity if you are willing to invest in you and adopt new ways of thinking.

Striving For Success

Beyond Success
By: Kade Gillingham

Striving for success can be a long and winding road with many speed humps and pot holes along the way. Success means different things to different people, whether it be relationships, finances, careers, family or health.

Realistically we all want to be successful in all areas of our lives and we are only limited by the questions that we ask ourselves.

While you may be very successful in one area of your life, let’s say your career, your health may be a little down as a result from the extra effort you have put in to your work to achieve that level of success.

Another example would be if you are spending a lot of time on your investing and finances you may be putting pressure on a relationship.

In order to bring some balance into your life you need to prioritize your values and spend your time on different areas of your life accordingly.

Looking at the example above, if your health is being affected by the hours you are doing at work you really need to sit down and prioritize your values. If you keep putting pressure on your body and your health, eventually it will catch up with you and won't be able to do your job.

Working out what is most important to you is the first step towards achieving the level of success that you desire. Being grateful for what you already have will enable you to grow.

Paul Blackburn is founder of Beyond Success and has been a coach for over 25 years. His top ten clients have a combined net worth of over 100 million dollars. He has coached CEO's, high profile athletes and business owners from all over the globe.

Paul has recently launched a new product called "Blockage Busters" which teaches you how to smash through the mental blockages that stop you from achieving what you set out to achieve. In his course he talks about goal setting and how most people rarely achieve there desired goals due to their subconscious thoughts.

You see, your subconscious mind has the last word on most of your actions. You might say “I want to make a million dollars in the next year” but your subconscious mind has a program that says “making money is hard work and you can’t make that amount of money so quickly. Best you don’t try and risk losing everything”.

If your subconscious isn’t programmed to accept that making a million dollars is possible, then simply asking for it won’t make it come true. You could spend years trying to achieve your financial goal but all you end up with is frustration.

If your conscious and subconscious minds aren’t in agreement then taking action to achieve your goal will stir up negative emotions. You will feel fear, anxiety, frustration and a sense of being overwhelmed and bogged down. Sound familiar?

If so, that’s your subconscious mind saying, “I told you so and I’ll prove you can’t make a million dollars”

Yours in success,

Speed Reading

Advanced Top Techniques To Conquer Speed Reading!
By: Joe Okoro

The art of speed reading is a technique each speed reader tries to acquire over time. Speed reading is guided by two main components, speed and comprehension. Once you have comprehension, reading any material in any field becomes less a problem in terms of speed and understanding. However, for the starter, to acquire this art, he will need to employ techniques and strategies to accomplish expertise in speed reading.

To be a good speed reader, you need to implement some strategies. And these strategies need practice upon practice to make them work very well. When you are starting out, do not set unachievable goals such as trying to read and complete a big volume book in a single day. Instead of helping you to achieve speed reading, it will only frustrate your efforts. I would recommend say reading a chapter each and every day to make it interesting for you.

In reading, the focus should be on understanding the contents of a material in a limited time. Therefore, when you are previewing a material you are about to read, your concern should be to familiarise yourself with the topic and possibly scan for main points. When you come across unfamiliar words, brisk over it and try to derive meaning from context, if this fails you may consult a thesaurus later on to clear your mind on the meaning.

As a starter, the initial steps should be to test your reading and comprehension speed presently and time yourself with a stop watch. Do this repeatedly and see if you are able to read faster. If you see improvements, it will help you to want to do more in reading. However, if you do not see any noticeable improvements, then do not worry yourself, because you may need more time and practice to jump from your present rate to a speed readers rate. Just know that this will take you some time and practice to achieve. Now let us be more practical. If you want to start reading, get yourself a progress chart, a stop watch, a pen and a reading material. And follow the steps below:

Get your chart ready by first arranging your reading rate as below:

Progress chart: Words per second/minute / Comprehension
Reading material 1.

As you read a whole article, try timing yourself with the stop watch, record the total time. Count the words of the article and divide by the time it took you, in seconds. Record your comprehension level. Practice more with same article. Now record your time. You will notice that as you continue your word per second increases. Now, take another article of about the same length and read, repeat the exercise again.

You may want to go further by getting all the material you are familiar with and set goals as the time span you would want to complete a particular book. When you set goals, make sure you achieve them. Let's examine the short sample below:

Two prominent people in science Dr. Ulene and his wife discovered vital information about vitamins, this information include administration, uses, and required amount of vitamins in the body for proper body metabolism.

A good speed reader's comprehension goes this way: The Ulene's find out important information about vitamins.

There are still some little additional details that the speed reader would not want to bother himself with, therefore, he picks only needed details to him.

Spiritual Keys To Life

Acceptance is the Spiritual Key to Non-Judgment
By: Richard Blackstone

The paradigm of love, unity and oneness teaches us to neither judge nor condemn because there is no “right or wrong.” There only is “what is.” It is in our judgments that the concepts of “right or wrong” become so real to us. Now think of this. What if we viewed the people and events in our lives the way that the God of unconditional love does?

This God views our lives with total acceptance. This God understands that you are at free will to choose any experience that you desire. That is your mission. To choose experiences here in the relative world so that God may know herself through us and experience all that she knows conceptually from the absolute world.

We are God, Goding so that in, as, and through us we are collaborators in God's experiences. As such, everything we do and every person we meet fulfills our mission and we accomplish this by being the creators of our experience through our free will.

We have created or co-created every person and event that shows up in our lives. When you are awake you are aware of this. When you are sleepwalking you are unaware of this.

From the macro-perspective, from God's perspective, it is easier to see how it makes no sense to judge the people and events that show up in our lives. They are merely people and events that we have drawn to us through our creation of our life.

The tool that is necessary to view these people and events to see if they serve us is the tool of acceptance.

Acceptance allows us to view our creations in their full light. We are not filtering the light of our creations with labels and limitations. We don't limit our perspectives by judging what shows up. We allow maximum exposure so that we can observe our creation and see if it serves us or not.

If we observe that it does not serve us we do not condemn it. We accept it and bless it and then choose another experience and create that. In this way we do not slow down our evolution. We allow ourselves to evolve at a faster pace because we are responsible for our creations. We don't disown them or condemn them through judgment. That would be irresponsible.

Can you begin to see how, by using the tool of acceptance, you can start to eliminate the value judgments of “right and wrong” from the people and events that show up in your life? By accepting what shows up in your life you are merely acknowledging what is. This person or that event showed up in your life. That's what is. It's not “right or wrong” or “good or bad” in and of itself. It's just what is at that point in your life.

If you are awake and aware you understand this and are able to look at what is and see how it can serve you. That is, you get to put the meaning to whatever it is that showed up in you life. Sleepwalkers always add labels like right, wrong, good, or bad.

The person walking in awareness understands these labels inhibit the ability of whatever shows up to serve us. Instead they use the tool of acceptance to allow them to view what is without labels or judgments and put whatever meaning to it that would best serve their purpose for creating it in the first place.

You need to understand that we get to put the meaning to any person or event that shows up in our lives. When we judge, we restrict our ability to make what is meaningful (full of meaning).

When we accept “what is” without judgment we are able to assign a meaning to “what is” that is beneficial to our overall goals. It is totally up to you to assign whatever “what is” means to you. If you are consciously aware you will more that likely use whatever shows up to help you in your evolvement.

If you are sleepwalking you will more than likely judge and condemn whatever shows up and, in effect, slow down your evolution. Once again, the choice is yours. If we observe the two concepts it appears that judging what shows up in our lives does not serve us, while accepting what shows up in our lives does serve us.

Judging is a concept that is based in the fear-based paradigm of separation. Acceptance is a concept that is based in the love-based paradigm of oneness. I don't need to tell you because you already know this, don't you?

In this love-based paradigm of oneness we accept and bless all the people and events that show up in our lives as different aspects of our individual and joint creations. This sounds great and on an esoteric level it is doable. It is also doable on the physical level that we live in.

All you need do is consciously change your perspective of life from fear to love.
